Fantastic Diving Spots Down Under

Whether you're an amateur diver, or an experienced one looking for a new challenge, you'll want to visit Australia so that you can dive along the Great Barrier Reef. The Barrier Reef is 1,250 miles long and stretches from New Guinea to Queensland. Diving in this area of the world is an experience that you won't forget since it's filled with the wonder of natural elements combined with some of the most amazing sea creatures of the world.

Over 2000 small reefs come together to be referred as The Great Barrier Reef. The entire great barrier reef is littered with thousands of small islands made of coral. All these islands creating a wonderful spectacle of color and light throughout the ocean.

The water is warm and you will literally swim with the fishes when you dive along the Great Barrier Reef. Don't forget an underwater camera to record all the wonders that you see.

Australia offers many diving opportunities and a wide variety of places to choose from. When on a dive holiday, it is better to be forearmed with information so as to get the diving experience that you want.

Pixie Pinnacle is amongst the most popular diving places in Australia. Pixie Pinnacle is located near Lizard Island and comprises of a large coral that is over ninety feet in height. Some of the sea creatures that you wil see on this dive include clownfish, rabbitfish, lionfish, nudibranches, and honfish. While on this dive you can also see the Coral Sea just beyond the Barrier Reef.

Lizard Island has another famous diving spot - 'Cod Hole'. Some of the sea animals that can be seen when on a dive off Cod Hole are the moray eel, the Napoleon wrasse, and large groups of cod - that is from where this spot gets its name.

For a diving site that is livelier with sea creatures you might want to head to Yongala Wreck. You can find this diving spot south from Cod Hole by 200 miles. The coral in this area of the Great Barrier Reef is thick, making it a great hiding place for eagle rays, jacks, flowery cod, and the barramundi cod. If you're lucky you may be able to see a turtle or two.

Remember to follow safety practices and the marine rules governing diving in the Great Barrier Reef. It is so important to remember that the reef is a living animal because it's composed of coral. Treat it with respect at all times. Be especially aware of displacing sand when using your fins. Sand will harm the sea animals as well as the coral.

As a must not do, do not ever feed any of the sea animals that you encounter during your dives. Fish are known to become repeat pests when you feed them and can therefore, make them react aggressively to all divers. Dive to savor these wonders with your eyes and make sure you do not seek souvenirs. The beautiful coral, shells, and rocks that you see maintain the environmental balance for the animals that live in that area. Just give yourself the luxury of trapping all these wonders in an under water camera.

Paintball Is A Bang-Up Sport For Anyone

Ron Fowler said it feels like being hit with a wet towel. Bryan Vasaris said it's like being snapped with a rubber band or stung by a bee. Being shot by a paintball gun doesn't sound very fun. So why is paintball one of the fastest growing sports in America, according to the National Sporting Goods Association? "It's a stress relief, because you can go out and shoot at people and not dangerously hit them," Vasaris said. "But it's also being with a group of guys that you like to hang around with."

The most commonly played paintball game is "capture the flag." There are rules variations, but the object is for a team to capture the opposing team's flag while protecting its own. Players eliminate opponents by shooting them with their paintball guns.
The games can be played outside in an open field or forest, or inside at a specially designed facility with inflatable bunkers and other obstacles. "It's not the hide-and-seek game everyone thinks," Vasaris said. "It's really action-packed and fast-paced." Players use carbon dioxide- or nitrogen-powered guns that fire thin, gelatin capsules filled with non-toxic paint - the "paintballs."

Vasaris, 22, who has been playing paintball since he was in high school, will be a senior at the University of Cincinnati this year and is the president of the school's paintball team. He said getting shot isn't as bad as it seems. "After the first time, I didn't even think about getting hit," Vasaris said. "There is such an adrenaline rush that you don't even feel it."

For those who want to experience that rush, there are plenty of paintball facilities around Cincinnati. A good place to start for beginners is the Hueston Woods Paintball Club at Hueston Woods State Park.

Tom Arvan, who has been the paintball club's general manager for 12 years, likes to promote the game to new players. "My personal enjoyment is seeing the kids play and seeing first-time players come off the field with a grin on their face," Arvan said.
Hueston Woods is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and offers two fields, including one that is wooded with some constructed obstacles. The cost to play is $27, which includes a gun, a carbon dioxide tank, 200 paintballs and protective gear. Players who have their own equipment pay $12. The fields are open Monday through Friday by reservation for groups of 15 or more. Arvan said Hueston Woods has catered to birthday parties, bachelor parties, fraternity and sorority parties and corporate outings. "We have had high praises from corporate groups for team-building," Arvan said. "It's a game that really fosters some friendship and sportsmanship."

First Flight

I, along with some others in my family, received radio control airplanes for Christmas. I have long been interested in airplanes and flying. I took ground school while attending college, but did not have the time or the money to complete my flight training. I still intend to complete flight school sometime, however, whenever it is possible for me to do so. I also went skydiving once, just to try it. I wrote my last journal entry to say oodbye to everyone the night before I went and jumped out of a plane several thousand feet up in the air. Skydiving was fun, but I think I liked just flying around in that little plane more than jumping out of it. It was relaxing, but exhilarating and exciting at the same time. Anyway, this first flight is not about me flying n the plane, but controlling our radio control airplanes from the ground. It is probably good we were not in the plane too.

My brother radio control airplane came first, so we got it on Christmas day. My radio control model aircraft arrived late after it was ordered, so I did not receive it until a few days after Christmas. Because my brother came first, we decided to take it out and fly it. We went to a large parking lot by a large field. There was a river and a large church building nearby as well. In the field there were a lot of large trees that we had to avoid, and in around the parking lot there were high power lines. Neither of us had ever flown a radio control airplane before, so we did not really know what we were doing and had to figure it out.

My brother took the control first. He increased the power on the control, so the plane began to move forward. It took off very rapidly, and sped away at a nearly uncontrollable speed. I told him to steer clear of the river, but instead he flew out of control in a straight line for probably two-hundred to three-hundred feet right over the river. He suddenly turned and hit a tree, causing the plane to fall into the creek bed. We went running over to it to make sure it did not float down the stream or get destroyed. Luckily it landed near the bank on a rock sticking up.

I took the controls next. I flew the plane in the opposite direction from the river. I pointed it toward the church and the field instead. The plane took off again, cruising over the parking lot. I think part of our control problem was that we had the plane at full power each time we flew it, so went very fast and out of control. It quickly covered the distance of the parking lot and was heading right over the church. I did not want it to get stuck on the roof of the church. I had to make it turn, but there were trees in the way. I tried to turn around the back of the trees, in between the trees and the church building. I turned the plane, but it was hard to control or know when to turn, because we were so far away already. The plane had traveled too fast. The turn was too sharp, and out of control. The plane crashed hard into the tops of the trees.

I was worried the radio control model airplane had busted apart when it hit the trees. It was going so fast and crashed so hard. When we finally got over to survey the damage, the plane was still tightly stuck in the top of the tree, but both of the wings had come off. We found a large pole to hit the plane out of the tree, it took a while to get it out, and the plane was somewhat damaged, but easily fixable. That was our first flight. It also turned out to be the last for that airplane, after our parakeets pecked it to pieces one day. But that is alright, I can always fine another airplane model or radio control airplane at another hobby shop or store.

Time for Christmas plans

Usually all Christmas plans are made up ahead, but if several weeks before the holiday you still don know where to go on your so desperately expected vacations, may be this article can help you to define your preferences.
The fist thing you should remember is that usually by the beginning of December all the best places are already booked. So, prepare to spend more money, time and nerves, than, for example, in October.
The fist thing to decide is the type of vacation you would like to have. At first would you prefer winter of summer? Some can imagine their Christmas without snow; others deserve to escape from the frost.
If you decide to warm up in the end of December, you are most likely to choose one of the sea resorts somewhere near equator. The most popular are Thailand, Maldives, Indonesia, India or Dominican Republic. All these countries have their own advantages, but if you like just to lay on the sun than choose Maldives. In other places there is so much to see, that your tan could be rather pale. You can also choose on the small islands in Polynesia sun, ocean and palms if that all you need from your holidays than it would be a perfect choice.
Those, who prefer the active way of life, can go in for diving or windsurfing. All these resorts offer the outstanding opportunities for these sports.
If you have chosen not to be deprived of snow and winter then you still have a lot of possibilities and variants. You may go to a country with a lot of historical attractions and devote your time to excursions, shopping (Christmas sales are very attractive) and meet New Year on the main square surrounded by crowds of celebrating people from all over the world. Christmas tree as a symbol is as must. Cities ideal for this kind of holiday are Paris, New York, Prague. Frankly speaking, any big city in the Northern hemisphere can be suitable. You will return full of souvenirs and new impressions.
If you like sport, particularly alpine skiing than the best choice is, without any doubt, Alps. There you can find comfort and nature, interesting entertainment programs and remoteness from the cities noise. French, Swiss or Austrian Alps - all perfectly match. If you live in the United States and don like to fly across the ocean, you can spend you vacations on one of the Colorado mountain resorts.
We have examined a lot of variants, but all of them need at least a week. What to do if you have just few days but still want to change your surroundings? In that case you can choose not so distant country or even travel within your country borders. Just choose the place where you have never been and your trip will full your with new emotions.
Some people always spend their holidays in the same place. May be this year it time to change situation? If you don feel like it, just go where you are used to and feel comfortable and relaxed.
No matter where you will be on vacations, the most important is the mood, the atmosphere and the people who are with you. If all these components are fine, your holiday will be a success!

Skydiving training methods

First, you will need to find a skydiving school with a good reputation. This is a fairly easy thing to do. The internet, phone book, and local airports are full of them. Next, you will need to check your pocket book. Skydiving is one of the more expensive sports to learn. Then, you will need to decide how you want to learn. There are three methods of training: tandem, static line, and Accelerated Free Fall (AFF). All of these methods have their benefits and drawbacks, but we will touch more on those a little later.

What's First?

Health and Safety.
First, you must consider health and safety. Know the risks involved before you get involved. Skydiving is not chess; you will not be sitting on an uncomfortable concrete bench moving your pieces around a game board. You are going to step out of an airplane and, in freefall, will reach speeds of up to 250 feet per second that is 110 miles per hour!! If you have a bad ticker, unregulated high blood pressure, or any number of other health problems, speak to an instructor and discuss your options in detail. Also keep in mind, even the best of the best in this sport sometimes hit the ground a little harder then they intend to. So, bad knees may also be a consideration. DO NOT be afraid or embarrassed to discuss these things with your instructor before making that first jump. It is always preferable to hit the ground safely then to plant yourself in it. Truthfully though, with the proper preparations and instruction you would be more likely to develop cataracts from reading this article then suffer a serious injury from skydiving. Listen to your instructors, know your equipment, and never assume you know how to do something just because you saw it in a movie.

Which Training Method To Use?

Training Methods
As I researched information, I discovered that there are three approved methods of training to become a licensed skydiver, the Tandem jump, the Static jump, and the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF).

Tandem
The tandem jump is the easiest and quickest method to get into the air. With ground training typically lasting about 30 minutes, you will then jump out of an airplane while strapped to the chest of a professional Tandem Instructor. After three or four of these jumps and completion of the approved First Jump Course (ground school), a student may then move on to the next level.

Tandem jumping, however, does provide an opportunity for the adventurous spirit who may not quite meet the physical or proficiency requirements for the static line or accelerated free fall jumps. By relying on tandem instructor's skills, it may still be possible to experience the extreme thrill of skydiving.

Static Line
Static line skydiving was developed by the military as a safety measure for paratroopers. It is used for instant and reliable deployment of parachutes at a relatively low altitude, about 2000 - 3000 feet. Basically what happens is a specially designed cord is attached to the plane and to your parachute. As you step away from the plane, the cord immediately deploys your parachute for you. No fuss - no muss. After about two of these jumps the student begins demonstrating mock-pulls of a dummy ripcord. After about three of these jumps the student is then ready for their first free fall.

Accelerated Free Fall
This is the way to go for the adrenalin junky out there. Why? You get to free fall from jump one!! Of course this method is a little more expensive due to the fact that you will have two instructors jumping with you, and, although you will be in free fall, the instructors will maintain hands-on contact at all times during free fall. After a few jumps like this, you will begin doing it on your own with a single instructor giving more advice and training. This method will get you your class a license a little faster.

Training Completed!! Really?

After Class
After you have completed 4 to 5 hours of ground school training and have made 25 jumps, you are qualified for a license and can keep going all the way to your D license, requiring 500 jumps. But once you have your license, are you really done? The answer to that question is no. As with any skill, you never learn everything. There is always going to be that next skill level to work towards. New equipment and techniques are being developed every day. So the only thing left to do now is to get started! Have fun and good jumping!

Rigid Inflatable Boats

A rigid inflatable boat is defined as a hard-hulled boat with air inflatable collars. RIB hulls are made of fiberglass, aluminum or composite materials. The soft bumpers or fenders, called "sponsons," can be air tubes, or all foam systems. These boats are powered by a variety of motors and usually come from the manufacturer as a package boat with tube, motor and trailer.

Rigid inflatable boats are more like traditional boats, with hulls supported by a rigid material. The main benefits of these boats are superior performance and easy assembly. To assemble, one simply has to inflate the tubes. However, storage can be a problem because they can be made smaller than the rigid portion of the boat. Since an RIB is heavier, a davit system (crane like device) is usually required to bring it back onto the boat.

Rigid inflatable boats can accommodate larger outboard motors than other boats of comparable size, and perform almost as well as rigid boats, especially in tight turns, but without the bulk and weight. A one-piece hull and deck provides comfortable, non-skid footing and a stable platform for skiing, diving or fishing. Although the tubes deflate for storage, RIB are not compact, and hence, many boaters keep them on trailers, on deck, on their swim step, or on davits.

Rigid inflatable boats are the best performers, and hence, the most expensive. Their rigid fiberglass hulls attached to inflated tubes combine the lightweight stability and buoyancy of inflatable boats with the speed, maneuverability, directional stability, and fuel efficiency of rigid boats.

The beauty of these hard bottom hulled and collared boats is that the tube/collar has flotation, adds stability, and self fendering meaning that the RIB won scratch other hulls. These features of the sponson provide enhanced sea keeping ability, better absorption of shock from waves on impact, easier boarding of other vessels, high visibility, increased swamp buoyancy, and increased stability while stationary and under way.

Rigid inflatable boats have evolved from an all-inflatable dinghy to a deep V hard-hulled boat. RIBs are ideal for use in rescue operations, boarding operations, tenders for ships and yachts, and shuttle vehicles for tourist industries.

The Benefits of Inflatable Fishing Boats

Inflatable fishing boats are great yacht tenders/camping boats that are light enough to be carried in a backpack. Some 8-foot inflatable fishing boats are good for two and gear, and are large enough to float in moderate whitewater rivers. They can also be used as a large yacht tender. Inflatable fishing boats that are 9-foot long can carry enough gear for a long outdoor journey, and make a great fishing boat.

Most inflatable fishing boats fold small enough to be transported easily in a car trunk. They weigh around 40 lbs without running boards and are lightweight enough to be carried to nearby waterways. Inflatable fishing boats are really versatile. They are equally suitable for fishing, diving, or as a pleasure cruiser. In addition to versatility and despite their large size, inflatable fishing boats are very easy to row.

To make things more enjoyable, fit the Inflatable Fishing Boat with a small 4 hp motor and the craft will go around all day on just a gallon of gas. In places that ban gas engines, one could attach an equivalent electric motor. Whatever one purpose, from fishing to Class 3 whitewater running, inflatable fishing boats are up to the job.

Inflatable fishing boats are cheap and durable boats well-suited for weekend fishing or hunting and camping trips. They are compact, and can be carried to the water by a couple of people. Despite this, inflatable fishing boats are spacious and rugged enough to handle almost any conditions.

The prices of inflatable fishing boats vary from $30 to $450 depending on the size and number of running boards. For just a fraction of the price of a conventional boat, inflatable fishing boats give the user all the freedom needed coupled with unrivalled accessibility. Thanks to their lightweight and amazing compactness, one can get to those hard-to-reach favorite fishing spots.

How to Choose a Skydiving Training Method

After you calculate all your time and cash available for skydiving, you will be able to choose between three first jump skydiving methods. Static line, tandem and AFF (Accelerated Free Fall).

These methods are pretty different because if a method will give you some experience as a introduction to skydiving the other one it's made to quick jump your path to a very experienced skydiver. You have to think about your alternatives. You have to set some clear points in your mind. Think about these three options you have and then just choose one, the one that best fit your expectations. Whichever skydiving method you will choose for your first jump, will be a good one, just because you choosed it.

Let's learn a few things about each of the skydiving methods we outlined at the beginning of this article.

Static Line - it's still evolving after more than 30 years. The first jump takes place from an altitude of 3000 feet after 4 hours of ground training. You will receive your A license after 25 free falls.

Tandem Jumping - This method is the most popular as a first jump. This method will allow you to experience skydiving without any stress. You can do your first jump with just 30 minutes of basic training. You will be assisted by a tandem master and a tandem instructor. Be prepared to spend $90 to $280 for your tandem jumping.

AFF(Accelerated Free Fall) - This is the most extreme skydiving method. You will have to exit the airplane somewhere at 11000-11500 feet, only with 2 instructors who will assist you during the AFF. For each jump you will assist to a 45 minutes ground training.

Now that you now something about all the three skydiving methods that can suit your first jump you are free to choose the one that best fit your needs and just do it, you will love to skydive from the very first moment. Have fun.

Do You Know The History Of Trampolines As Exercise Equipment ?

The manufactured trampoline, as we know it today, was
created by two men, George Nissen and Larry Griswold.
Around 1935, Griswold, then the assistant gymnastics coach
at the University of Iowa, and Nissen, a tumbler on the University of Iowa gymnastics team, "made regular jaunts to Bloomington, Illinois where numerous circus people had their winter homes.

Among them were the "Flying Wards", some of the finest
trapeze performers in the world. Griswold and Nissen worked
out with them at the local YMCA, and frequently helped them make or mend their large trapeze nets. Nissen remembers the hours they spent in the basement of the YMCA, threading the long cords of the nets, using large javelin-head needles. This experience was one of several that led them to the idea of creating a trampoline.

One day, with the help of the wrestling coach at the
University of Iowa, Griswold and Nissen bolted together an angle iron frame. A piece of canvas, in which they had inserted grommets along each side, was then attached to the frame by using springs. This was the first trampoline.

Since Nissen was still training for tumbling, they decided
to move the trampoline to a YMCA camp where he was an instructor. There, during his free time, Nissen used it for his tumbling training. Immediately, he found that the children loved it. This was the first realization that the trampoline could be more than a piece of equipment to use when performing, or seriously training. It was something that many others could enjoy.

In 1942, Griswold and Nissen decided to formalize their
small operation of making trampolines. They created the Griswold-Nissen Trampoline & Tumbling Company, and history was made.

But where does the name "Trampoline" come from? "El
trampolin" means diving board, in Spanish. George Nissen,
the co-creator of the competitive style trampoline, heard
the word on a performance tour in Mexico in the late
1930's. He liked the sound of it, and decided to Anglicize
the spelling and call his bouncing rig a Trampoline, a term
he later registered as a trademark.

5 Tips For More Swimming Pool Fun

Swimming is a wonderful exercise that can benefit anyone. If you're not fortunate enough to have your own pool, you can use your local public swimming pool, or even swim in the sea if you're reasonably close to the coast. Whatever way you do it, try to get wet often; it's good for you and lots of fun too!

1. Keep moderation in mind when you go in the pool. Begin with short period of 10 to 20 minutes. You can increase this when you gain in stamina. And don't try all the hardest strokes at first. Build up to it gently.

2. Use a quality filter for your pool. Trying to save here will only result in constant maintenance costs. It will also mean swimming in a pool that is always dirty.

3. Repair any tear in your swimming pool liner as soon as possible. If the tear is three inches or less it should repair easily. If it is larger you may have to replace the entire liner.

4. Don't allow children (or adults) to run near the pool. Running and diving into a pool is asking for trouble. Accidents can easily happen on slippery surfaces, so play safe always.

5. If you find that all your pool toy, chemicals and cleaners are becoming unmanageable, find someplace to store them. A shed or pool house near the pool is ideal. However, be careful not to store chemicals that may react with each other close together. Also make sure the room is well ventilated.

Hand mitts, paddles, swim fins, and kickboards are all ways to make your swimming more fun and challenging to provide better exercise. These days you can even swim to music by using a specially designed radio that fits into a waterproof bag. So don't just lounge around the pool all day. Use it as it is intended to be used - swim and enjoy life!

Learn Skydiving: Skydiving Equipment Parts

All the parachute rigs that are used today by skydiving enthusiasts have six important parts.

The main canopy is just the parachute itself.

The drogue chute is a small parachute that is used by skydivers to open the main parachute. Skydivers have to throw out the drogue and when it catches the wind it will pull out the bridle, a piece of nylon webbing, then the bridle pulls out the main parachute.

The reserve is also known as the second parachute. This second parachute is available for the safety of skydivers just in case the main parachute won't open for any reason.

The container is attached to hold the main parachute and the second one in a very safety place.

Another important part in any skydiving equipment is the AAD. If anything wrong happens with the skydivers and they can't open the parachute, this AAD will automatically do it for them at about 800 feet.

Ram Air Canopies are the type of parachute that is used these days by almost all experienced skydivers around the globe. Ram Air Canopies are square or rectangular made from a material called lightweight nylon. This type of parachutes are mostly used because of the safety they offer to the user. Also, great control was a thing that made this type of parachutes to be used so much. Using this type of parachute your landings will be as precise as possible.

After you learn a little about skydiving, you will want to go for it, make your first jump. Knowing extremely well all about your skydiving equipment is more than essential to your skydiving success. So, make sure you learn all the things you can before making your first jump. All the information you need can be found online, you can ask friends that are more experienced in skydiving, you can watch video materials that are made for this porpose, to help skydiving beginners to understand all the things about this great, extreme sport.

Wish you great success in your skydiving experience.
